Service Technician

Total Tool is a full-service distributor of automotive shop equipment; including but not limited to, alignment equipment, automotive lifts, air and lube equipment, tire changers, vehicle exhaust systems, waste oil furnaces, and wheel balancers. Total Tool is a 25 year old company and sells products in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut. Total Tool provides a wide variety of high-volume replacement parts and other products, as well as inventory management to a diverse customer base.

We currently have an opportunity for a Service Technician to join our team. The primary responsibilities of the position will include performing repairs and maintenance on automotive shop equipment. Additionally, the position requires reading and interpreting repair orders and communicating with the appropriate personnel of the facility, to clarify problems and/or repair procedures. The position will involve:

Service Technician Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs and maintenance on automotive shop equipment to ensure safe and productive operations.
  • Reads and interprets repair orders, communicates well with supervisor(s) and business owners/ manager for clarification of problems and discusses repair procedure.
  • Completes paperwork associated with repairs, documenting parts usage, and accounts for applied times
  • Repairs and installs plumbing, electrical and FIC systems.
  • Understands how to use basic hand tools and mechanical test equipment such as multi-meter and tape measure.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Repairs/maintenance: hydraulic systems, air systems, transmissions, electrical systems, motors, electrical controls, switching and motor controls
  • Overhauls/replace: hoses, motors, valves, pumps
  • Install/repair: waste oil furnaces, electrical and FIC systems, plumbing/piping/tubing; replace single phase motors (single and two speed); run conduit; pull wiring to machinery, motors, operating parts, etc.; install and rebuild pumps and motors; install and rebuild air compressors; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace seals on pumps; install and repair piping, valves, filters, and associated controls
  • Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of equipment.

**Helpful attributes: fabricating, Class A license, strong mechanical ability and must be willing to take a Mechanical Aptitude Test
